Year 7 & Year 8 Rounders Borough Champions
On Tuesday, 2 July 2024, our Year 7 and Year 8 Girls Rounders teams triumphantly clinched the Harrow Borough Championship titles.
Year 7 Champions:
The Year 7 team displayed outstanding performance, winning all three of their games in the tournament. Their superb hitting allowed them to score impressively, while their well-drilled fielding, teamwork, and decision-making made it difficult for opponents to score against them.
The tournament began with a comfortable victory over Nower Hill. Our backstop and first base pairing combined effectively on several occasions to dismiss Nower Hill batters.
The closest match of the afternoon was against Bentley Wood. Bentley Wood batted first, scoring 5.5 rounders—a competitive score. As our girls switched to bat, their strategic base running, including sacrificing a runner to ensure a score at 2nd base, proved crucial. This strategy paid off with a narrow victory by just 1/2 rounder. The win against Bentley Wood was pivotal in securing the championship.
Knowing a win against Hatch End would secure first place overall, our team showcased slick fielding and powerful batting, sweeping Hatch End aside with ease.
Year 8 Champions:
The Year 8 team matched the success of Year 7 with their own impressive victories. They won closely contested games against Nower Hill and Bentley Wood to claim the Borough tournament title. Demonstrating remarkable skill and knowledge of the game—honed during a recent Year 7 vs. Year 8 trial match—they prevented many rounders from being scored. This victory was particularly notable given that this team emerged from a trial attended by over 40 girls, many of whom were new to competing for Park High. Their excitement for future rounders and cricket games is palpable.
Congratulations to both teams on their remarkable achievements and a heartfelt thank you to all the staff who supported their success. With this victory, we edge closer to matching the success of the 2022-23 season, where we won 13 titles. Just one more title needed to equal that record and two to surpass it. With several competitions still underway, it's going to be an exciting finish, and we believe we can do it!
Here's to many more performances like these. Well done, Park High!
