Remembrance service
On Monday, 11th November 2024, our school marked Armistice Day, also known as Remembrance Day. This solemn occasion commemorates the end of World War One on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.
At 11am, the entire school observed a two-minute silence to honour the sacrifices of those who served and fell in the line of duty. Following this, a small commemoration was held on the grassy knoll.
As part of the service, students laid 58 crosses in remembrance of the soldiers from Stanmore who tragically did not return from the Great War. The ceremony was accompanied by 'The Last Post', played by talented Year 11 students. In military tradition, this bugle call marks the end of the day’s activities and is also sounded at funerals and commemorative events, symbolising the soldier’s final rest.
We extend our thanks to all the students and staff who supported and participated in this moving service. A special thank you to Miss Cramp for her thoughtful planning and dedication in organising the event.
This annual tradition remains a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made for our freedom and the importance of reflection and remembrance.
‘We will remember them.’
