Year 11 Art and Photography Trips to Tate Galleries

On Monday, 13th January, 48 Year 11 Art students embarked on an inspiring visit to Tate Britain, followed by a trip to Tate Modern by 32 Year 11 Photography students on Tuesday, 14th January. These trips were integral in helping students cultivate ideas for their Externally Set Assignments, which account for 40% of their final grade.

During these visits, students participated in activities designed to deepen their engagement with the artworks and foster a critical understanding of contemporary art. These experiences aimed to empower students to develop meaningful and independent creative responses upon their return to school.

Art Students at Tate Britain

“The Art Galley was amazing, there were so many interesting pieces of artwork. The gallery was busy with many other schools. We spent the first hour looking at all the amazing artwork and then after lunch we were able to draw some of our favourite artworks. I was particularly curious about one large artwork in the main hall by Alvaro Barrington. He had made 3 installations exploring his life in South America, his life in London and his life in New York.

Photography Students at Tate Modern

The Photography students had an equally enriching experience at Tate Modern.

We went to Tate Modern and it was great. It was amazing to learn about new artists and how they make their art. The gallery building had amazing architecture. We saw different artists work. We saw different point of views from a variety of artists which helps our understanding immensely. It gave us lots of inspiration to help with our GCSE Photography.”

These trips not only supported the students' academic work but also offered a broader appreciation for contemporary art and photography, equipping them with invaluable insights for their creative journeys. We hope the exposure to various artistic perspectives significantly enhances our students' understanding, and has provided them with ample inspiration for their GCSE projects.
